Welcome to #Checkin for Friday, February 18, 2022!

Why howdy there #Checkin people! It’s me again, and today we’re going to talk about what’s so special about the date.
• In 1797, the French Revolutionary Wars: Sir Ralph Abercromby and a fleet of 18 British warships invade Trinidad.
• In 1814, the Napoleonic Wars: The Battle of Montereau.
• In 1861, The American Civil War: In Montgomery, Alabama, Jefferson Davis is inaugurated as the provisional President of the Confederate States of America.

Presidents' Day is a public holiday in most US states.
Although Lincoln's Birthday, February 12, was never a federal holiday, nearly half of the state governments have officially renamed their Washington's Birthday observances as "Presidents' Day", "Washington and Lincoln Day", or other such designations. (In historical rankings of presidents of the United States Lincoln and Washington are frequently the top two presidents.) I may misremember, but I believe we used to celebrate both Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays separately here in Califas. Washington’s birthday is the 22nd. Made for two holidays off instead on just one.

Other observances are Drink Wine Day, National Battery Day, National Caregivers Day, and more importantly, Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day! Oh man, I wish I'd know this ahead of time so I could plan that. I’d better check my freezer.

My bestie’s 65th birthday was this week, and her old boyfriend and his partner came all the way from Poland for the celebration. She held a big outdoor party on Saturday, and it was pretty wonderful. She had a Taco Truck come and cater the event. Mmm... TACOS! As part of the week's celebration, We were all supposed to go to the zoo on Tuesday but got rained out. The few who decided to brave the weather and go anyway said it was great in spite of the ponchos and umbrellas, because they pretty much had the zoo all to themselves. (sigh) I wish I had gone.
