Why howdy there #Checkin people, it’s me, Roddio again. Today, we’re going to talk about computers.

Now I'm not computer expert, I'm just an old school graphic artist that someone stuck the "Designer" title to. In '90 I got a job where the art department had Macs that the artists worked on, and an IBM to run the production software. I was hire specifically to help them switch from an old chemical-based darkroom to a completely digital workshop.

Fast forward two decades and every art job I had was backed up by being the in-house Macintosh guy, because the brainiacs in the IT departments couldn't make heads or tails of them, so I did all the installs, maintenance, updates and even repairs.

The upshot was that for years I also became an artist's consultant for Macs, as most visually creative types seemed incapable of learning anything about their computers. It was a pretty cool side gig, and I got to meet and work with some very cool people.

After trying to instruct them over the telephone, I spent most of yesterday helping a retired schoolteacher download all their files from a '12 iMac onto a hard drive so that they can donate it, as they had discovered the wonders of the new 14" M3 MacBook Air.

It amazes me how many people know so little about simple computer tasks. It's not as if there aren't countless instructions online for them to follow. Anyway, instead of charging them, I asked for their old computer, which I will upgrade with an SSD drive, increase the RAM, and install the latest OS with a patcher before giving it to someone I know could use it,.

Cats are doing better, save one that's still freaked out.
