Well hello there,

I was thinking about relationships the other day – surely an offshoot of reading REDDIT. People often say relationships take work, especially if you share a space. That said, there are a lot of compatibilities that can make the “work” less or easier.

When I was young, shared housing was common, whether it was renting an apartment or house. I rented an apartment with a loose friend and got paired with someone I didn't know when I shared at Tech school; we chose to share a 2 bedroom for second year. Since then I’ve been married so I’ve pretty well always shared accommodations with someone. That brings a whole lot of role expectations that I feel weighed down by – for instance, why were women judged if a home wasn’t clean/tidy when men have thumbs?

Anywhoo – while people look at money compatibility and gender role compatibility, one thing I think people overlook is health attitudes, probably because most people at least seem to be healthy in social situations. While you can have different outlooks there are somethings that should mesh – illness avoidance strategies, expectations when ill like how much you like to be left alone.
