The only sure things in life are death and taxes, so it is said. While talking about death isn't fun, it is useful to plan. Wills and powers-of-attorney are recommended for folks, expecially if you have dependents or somebody who may be affected by your health or conditions.
We had a friend attorney help us write those up, as a non-hetero couple, we did not (and in some places, still do not) have the automatic legal protections that straight married couples have. (and even with these documents, some jurisdictions may disregard or ignore ours)
