On today's edition of what you won't read in the press, a total of 43 states set their โ€œall-timeโ€ ๐—๐—จ๐—Ÿ๐—ฌ record high maximum temperatures before 1960. Of those 43, 39 were recorded in or prior to 1940. Half of the states set their โ€œall-timeโ€ July record high maximum temperatures more than 90-years ago, including three before the 20th century.

The most states to set statewide record highs in just a single year was a whopping 12 in 1936. There were four each set in 1911, 1930 and 1934, and three set in 1901.

Most of these happen to be the state records for any month due to climatology (duh), but I'll reiterate once more that the map below specifically shows record highs by state for July. Not June. Not August. Not April. Not any month. July.
