Unions are not just about higher wages. Unions are about dignity. Sometimes higher wages are part of that but not necessarily. Being able to eat lunch safely, use a bathroom, sit, have a decent life outside of work - these are the reasons unions exist. It's encapsulated in one of the earliest union slogans: Bread AND Roses. Oh, and btw, women and girls were some of the earliest labor activists.
