We have little townships by river mouths or even just branches in rivers. They started as holiday spots the land is leasehold they are run by the communities and they can't live there for more then 6 months at a time. I suspect most live full time or have another house in a similar place to live in.

They are unusual and generally low cost due to the leasehold land. The people who live there are often slightly different from the average and each town has a different character.

They are an example of low cost housing due to the non ownership of land and community organisation.

This one is south rangitata the sea is also encroaching and big storms are starting to effect the seafront houses.
