Profile of Alexandra Botez, the world's top chess streamer, apparently, in Stanford Magazine. I never heard of her, which might have something to do with, while I like chess, I suck at it. If I was actually good at it, maybe I'd be paying attention to livestreams by top players. But they are so far beyond me.
"When she was 15 years old, Alexandra Botez won a national chess tournament that could have changed her life."
"But while her parents celebrated the prospect of a free college education, Botez, who grew up in British Columbia and Oregon, imagined an unwanted life unfurling in front of her. 'It was that moment that I freaked out,' she says. She didn't want to go to UT Dallas, and, more important, she realized she didn't want to play chess professionally."
