#Speaking Russian is now #forbidden at the National University of Kiev-Mogila Academy.

This has been announced by Gennady Zubko, a Ukrainian polititian and a member of the Supervisory Board at the National University of Kiev-Mogila Academy. Incidentally, he studied in the U.S.

These bans, as appalling as they are, are the best indication of the fact that many Ukrainians actually speak Russian as their mother tongue. Otherwise, there would be no point in banning Russian.

Can you imagine how surreal this is? Say you're a student and you have a best buddy classmate. You are both native speakers of whatever language. But you can't talk to him in that language!
