https://fosstodon.org/@elaterite/113409482410950598 elaterite@fosstodon.org - These are Washingtonia fillifera (desert fan palm). They are the only native palm in the US desert Southwest. All of the palm trees seen in cities are non-native cultivars. There's only a handful of sites where W. fullifera survive. This grove is near the Arizona / Calif border in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Sadly, I didn't have time to climb up into the canyon where the palms are. I had to make haste to get to the Grand Canyon to photograph the comet!
