#words #phases
Several years ago I wrote a poem ‘To Ground’. I recently posted it on diaspora. It was about when I travel from Salt Lake City to the Hopi Reservation. In my youth I learned the term “going to ground.” “Gone to ground” in the Southern states in America. The Hopi people also knew its meaning, as I did, and applied it to both man, woman and animals.
Today it occurred to me that perhaps the use and meaning of the phase is not known or understood my other cultures.

go to earth (To Ground)
(of a hunted, or wounded animal) hide in an underground burrow.
“the fox would go to earth and stay there till dark”
go into hiding.
[British] to hide from someone or something.
