Imagine what our society might have looked like if the electric engine prevailed over the combustion engine in the automotive industry. Today, and people no longer like to acknowledge it, do to Tesla cars and Elon Musks marketing of them, electric cars became cool. Popular enough that it changed the car market and industry up to the point of influencing politicians to apply ban combustion engine cars in future years to the advantage of the electric one. While an electric car isn't environmentally pure, it certainly is an upgrade to what we have had. Also the noise reduction is massive.
We might be a century late, but the progress is on and thriving, we'll catch up.
