#Colombia's President Petro gives his first speech side by side with Bolivar's sword.

He says he only wants the sword back in its sheath "when there is justice in this country. It is the people's sword, and that's why we want it here".
Simon Bolivar led the struggle for #LatinAmerican unity and independence in the 19th century. His ideas are still alive in popular struggles throughout the region against colonialism, imperialism, and for social justice.
During Colombia's civil war, this sword was taken from a museum in 1974 and only returned in 1991 after the #peace process. It became a symbol of popular struggle. #President #Petro wanted it to be present to mark a new beginning for Colombia.
Former President Duque, refused to allow the sword's presence at the ceremony. However, as soon as he was sworn in, President Petro called for a recess to allow the sword to be brought over. The crowd cheered and chanted: "Be alert! Bolivar's sword walks Latin America!"
