Sigh... Imagine there's a book fair with several exhibits, among them an author who received a prize for her children's book illustrations. And suddenly someone demands from the organizers that said author must not display her home country at her booth and instead has to write another country.

This happened in Italy, where the PRC embassy pressured first the organizers and then the local government to list an author's home country as "China", not "Taiwan". Since the government gave in and pressured the organizers, they decided not to make a kneefall like Lufthansa and instead removed all country labels.

An Italian MP (member of the Italy-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group - the German parliament has a similar nonpartisan group) later demanded to reinstate the Taiwan label. I don't think though that is going to happen...

But remind me please: Who said before and during the Olympics that the games shouldn't be "politicized"?
