SUNDAY. ...singing along with Doo Wop songs today. This one is for GEMMA ~ The Weeping Fig Tree. She is experiencing her 1st Autumn Leaves falling. Sniffle. Sniffle. So sweet. I rescued Gemma from a grocery store shelf when she dying in a little 6" black plastic container. The soil was totally dry. I looked at the pitiful sight before my eyes, got chills from head to toe, and tears filled my eyes. I reached out and touched her. "You're coming home with me, girl."
- I had no clue of what kind of plant she was. After internet searching I discovered she was a Ficus Benjamina. I thought of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The Tribe of Benjamin. He was the 2nd child of Rachel, the beloved wife of Jacob. She died in childbirth. So the name Gemma is for the name Benjamina, and the 12th Tribe of Israel.
I studied how to take care of her, and I shared my home with Gemma for a number of years. She has been a wonderful companion in the big City with very little Nature. She also helps my make my indoor air better.
