#PurvaAshadha #Nakshatra spans 13º20′ – 26º40′ sidereal Sagittarius. This Nakshatra is ruled by the planet #Venus and #Apas, the deity of Water. This is a fierce Nakshatra, energizing, invigorating, and also cutting and creating separation, just like the changeable quality of #water itself – both flowing and destructive.
Whereas Varuna, the deity of Shatabisha Nakshatra we’ve met previously, represents the wide open and boundless Ocean, Apas, the Goddess of Water of Purva Ashadha Nakshatra, represents contained water. Now this is not tightly contained in a jar, but image the containment as a lake- or river-bed, concentrated, energized, powerful through direction.
With Apas, the deity of Water, being the ruling energy here, the Eclipse can easily disturb this energy. Think of how the Moon controls the tides in the Ocean and the fluids within your body. Eclipse energy is difficult and can create unrest and even chaos, disturbing the mind, disturbing the water element within us.
Purva Ashadha Nakshatra can be indicative of separation. We can see this in one of it’s symbols, the winnowing basket, separating the corn from the husk, and also in it’s elemental symbology of water spreading out in different direction. This separation can be powerful. The fan is also associated with Purva Ashadha, again pointing to the theme of “spreading” out. A hand-fan when opened up becomes bigger and a powerful tool to create more comfort by channeling some cool air flow on a hot Summer day, and also to fan a fire, making the flames go big and bright hot.
Another symbol of P. Ashadha is the single tusk of an elephant. This is a symbol shared between Purva and Uttara Ashadha in this Nakshatra pair. Just like in Uttara Ashadha the elephants tusk illuminates this Nakshatras power of invincibility. Nothing can stand in the way of an elephant, he will simply move through the obstacle without hesitance. Easy feat if you are the largest mammal on Earth!
