How long will this continue? Amazon needs to be dismantled, torn up into smaller pieces, or whatever is needed to stop the juggernaut to gobble up the world.
What is bad about it? Well, before Amazone bought Ring, you could use it in combination with Google Home OR Alexa (that ugly copy gnome of Amazon). After the takeover, not very long even, support dropped, and one update further there was no way to use the damn thing on Home anymore.
That is bad, the IoT is splintered enough already without groups banishing use on other competition.
It is just as with streaming, no one can afford to have all services, yet more and more appear, splitting the things people like to watch between a zillion subscriptions, no way they all survive, all it does is push people back to piracy like the heady days of Torrents again.
Amazon will make sure, very quickly, that Roomba does not work with Home anymore, and yes i will drop the product if that happens, even when i like the little guy ;-)
I dislike Google, but I HATE Amazon.
