Once upon a time there was a TV show called Northern Exposure which was about fresh medical graduates working off education costs while providing medical services in the far reaches of Alaska. I was given to understand that such was a real life arrangement with new doctors starting out. But I wonder how Alaskans ever took to always getting rookies. I suppose a rookie is better than NO doctor, huh.

Paying doctors to practice in rural areas may be the only way to alleviate the rural healthcare crisis. That, and canceling all student loan debt and make college free. Many kids, including some I know in real life, dream of being a doctor or a nurse. And then they give it up because the cost to go through college is too expensive. #Iowa https://dailyyonder.com/commentary-its-time-governments-consider-paying-doctors-to-practice-in-rural-areas/2024/03/01/
