Just to illustrate what I said in another post, this entire group has been licking conspiracy lint off the couches since long before Trump came along.And facts didn't matter to them then, either. So if you think Trump ushered in something new, you just weren't paying attention.
These people have been--for the entirety of my adult life--responsible for more hoaxes, conspiracies, misinfo and outright lies than any other group.
Because they don't care about the truth. They really don't.
They care about what feels true to them.
They are telling you exactly who they are. They chose beliefs that make them feel good, and what makes them feel good is believing they are some exalted 'chosen ones' beset on all sides by barbarians.
