'Once upon a #Forest - #Documentary #Film - #Auroville #Botanical #Gardens
The #Tropical Dry #Evergreen Forest is the rarest of forest types in #India, as it’s range is narrow and these areas have been population for many thousands of years.

Tiny fragments remain of pristine forest, protected by the local cultural practices.

Today less than 0.1 percent of the forest remains in a form that resembles what it might have been like before the arrival of humans.

At this juncture in time the forest still has an important role to play, as we attempt create a resilient environment that we are able to pass on to the next generation. The effects of climate change will be felt along the Coromandel coast of Tamil Nadu, as the intensity and frequency of cyclonic events increase. This is a forest that is adapted to the strong winds, through its dense rooting systems and low canopy height. It is a remnant, but a precious one, that has many lessons to teach us and gifts to offer, it is up to us to get to know it and receive the wealth it can provide for us.'

Today my main activity was to begin the process of propagating some of the evergreen cutting that I’ve brought home from my walk-abouts. I’ve never done it before. I looked up the instructions on the Internet. After preparing them, I placed the cuttings in the container where ‘Gemma’ The Weeping Fig tree lives. She’s probably wondering what I’m doing. I don’t think she’ll mind having the little evergreen plants in her space. I’ll see how it goes with all of them. She will certainly let me know if I can take my evergreen cuttings and propagate them elsewhere.

EVERGREEN
I went for a walk this morning. It's always a good day when I can get out the door and walk. There is a rare sight in the 'Winter of Down the Valley of Salt Lake City', a beautiful blue sky with fluffy white clouds and fresh air. It rained a little last night, enough to bring down some of the thick, claustrophobic air pollution and wash it down drains. It's like many things - even when you can't see it, there is something beautiful hidden from your sight. In a short while, the air will fill up with solid white air pollution.

I love evergreen and stopped to cut a few springs growing on City public property. I love to have it at home - the sight and scent of evergreen is very nice. Something of Nature while living in the middle of concrete, asphalt, traffic and noise.
