Bethzaida - Nine Worlds (1996)

Mid 90's computer made album cover for Nine Worlds by Bethzaida: a door with guardian statues on each side with inverted and funky colours framed by digital noise.

Picked up this album again yesterday after not having listened to it for many years. It's still a great melodic, slow paced, death metal album. Or Dark Metal, as they called it themselves. Remarkably fresh despite being 27 years old this year. The flute, played by the Hirsch, the singer, along with the deep 7-string guitars and aggressive vocals create a fairly unique soundscape for this band from Trondheim, Norway.

Bethzaida came out of the scene around the university of Trondheim, and kind of dwindled away as the members finished their studies and spread across the globe. Some of them have later been active in music with bands such as Sarke, Exeloume, Faustcoven, Antidepressive Delivery, Mist Enticer, Killing for Company etc.

Somewhat interesting side note: Bethzaida was the first band signed on the then fresh label Seasons of Mist, and the second to be released by them. The label then went on to sign several bands from the then blooming metal scene in Trondheim with bands like Bloodthorn, Atrox and Griffin.
