Hey Siri / Alexa / Google
Does anybody remember A.L.I.C.E.? (Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer Entity)
Inspired by the early #ArtificialIntelligence efforts, #Voicebot research, #Eliza way back in the last millennium...
Perhaps like Oregon Trail or Walk-Man in the scheme of things, but as an early student of real and aspirational #AI, #ALICE was lots of fun, and I know teens would get into arguments, and try to elicit naughty responses, etc. For therapists and trainees (and patients/clients/analysands) it was fun too. "So why am I sad?" "It is the nature of the universe". "Why?" "Why not?"... Addictive.
"Context and Perspective"
So I just gave a quick visit to my equally ancient web pages serving as bulletin boards, and found this link listed atop my collection of "cool pages". (I told you this was ancient). So I visited the page, found she's still alive. This was before "Hey Siri", please note. :))
So I gave it a try, after many years, my first query to ALICE: With "New Yawk" accent. And you can can see "her" reply. Still fun.
Why not share this? It's aged mostly in the shadows, for 26 years (though it was a Yahoo! Life feature way back when...)
Well, along came AOL, Facebook, and the next thing I knew, nobody knows how to type or read or focus, and "what's a homepage?"
Have fun.
