Something makes the human mind susceptible to this kind of bullshit. And in the US, more and more people seem to be falling victim to it (roughly 40% by last count).
We know this kind of (anti-)thinking increases in times of stress, as when a country suffers economic hardship and extreme wealth disparities, for example in pre-WWII Germany and Italy, and pre-Soviet Russia.
The question whose answer could save all life on Earth is, How do we combat it?
