#bemyeyes is an absolute great use of technology. The app lets you help blind people by describing the world around them via a one-to-one video call.
I just took a call. Tonight it was a blind lady needing help reading a thermostat (and then finding her cane).
It’s not a big commitment. I have been signed up for about a year and only had to answer 4 calls so far. Also, each video call has lasted only a few minutes and they are offered to multiple sighted subscribers, so you don’t need to feel bad about rejecting a call.
If you’re so inclined, I recommend signing up. It’s nice to know you helped make someone’s day better.
