Directed by Allen Reisner on 1958 and written by Ted Sherderman and Robert Smith, this film is loosely based on the life story of the great W.C. Handy.
None other than Nat King Cole in the leading role, the cast features the likes of Eartha Kitt, Pearl Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway and even Mahalia Jackson as well as many other great musicians of the time. Fun fact: Young Will Handy is portrayed by a young Billy Preston.
