A line from Naomi Klein's "No Logo" mesmerized me:

What haunts me is not exactly the absence of literal space so much as a deep craving for metaphorical space: release, escape, some kind of open-ended freedom.

In addition to that, I feel an even deeper craving for that literal space, the very physical unmarketed public space and space filled with non-human life. It's too easy to equate those with space devoid of people, rather than brands/corporations, so it's hard not be misanthropic.

Talking to a friend late this afternoon, and got onto the whole Lego going bust by 3D printing debate.
When signifying how great this would be for anyone with the right materials, acquired blueprints and hardware, I was told that it would ruin his childhood, without them evening thinking for a second that there is a 1 year gap between us both.
I then went onto explain that not only our generation, but those before us, have been somewhat molded, conditioned if you like, to buy into these brands regardless of the possibility that we as the consumers, could in fact become our own manufacturers.
I was then told that it destroys the whole experience of going to the toyshop, purchasing the product, along with then anticipating the long awaited journey home before one plays with the bought product…
