As an example, one who is brought up in the US bible belt, forced to attend church and taught to both love and fear God, and proselytised with the warning about the fiery depths of eternal damnation for those who do not give control of their lives "voluntarily" to
[2021-10-24 19:55:27] God. If one were to say "God, I love you.", only because that's what the expectation is, and not ones true feeling, then everything about ones perspective of and feelings about God are built upon a lie.

You're an authoritarian, you take up my Sundays, some of your rules are questionable, and you never answer my prayers. And worst of all, you're a bore." - well, that's at least beginning from a place of emotional honesty.
[2021-10-24 20:00:14] That is freedom from the cognitive dissonance of an expectation of ones own feelings to be both genuine, voluntary, and of a certain persuasion. If that's not how one feels in sincerity, one must at least be honest to oneself about it.
