The Smile, “Bending Hectic”

Le trio composé de Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood et Tom Skinner avait interprété ce morceau pour la première fois lors de l’édition 2022 du Montreux Jazz Festival.
Side project de Radiohead, The Smile est un groupe qui a vu le jour lors des confinements de 2020 entre Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood et le batteur du groupe de jazz Sons of Kemet, Tom Skinner. Pour ses débuts au Montreux Jazz Festival en 2022, le trio avait notamment présenté Bending Hectic, resté inédit.

Un morceau connu des fans
Cette année, le groupe a finalement enregistré la version studio du morceau dans les mythiques studios d’Abbey Road. C’est Sam Petts-Davies, qui a notamment déjà collaboré avec Thom Yorke, Frank Ocean et Radiohead sur leur album A Moon Shaped Pool en 2016, qui est à la production de ce morceau, dont le London Contemporary Orchestra a joué les cordes.
Pièce dantesque et hypnotique de huit minutes au final grandiose, Bending Hectic est le premier morceau du groupe depuis la sortie de son premier album A Light for Attracting Attention en 2022. Le morceau n’avait pas été retenu dans l’album live issu de sa performance au Montreux Jazz Festival de 2022, alors qu’il était devenu l’un des favoris auprès des fans. Celleux-ci ont obtenu réparation.
