Sirens and Mermaids are two entirely different specifies.
The Sirens who sang beautifully were bird-like creatures who caused sailors to crash into cliffs and rocks, causing the sailors and all passengers to be killed or drown due to the sinking ships.
Mermaids were the opposite. They did not sing anyone to their deaths. They were friends of mankind and saved as many as they could that were drowning and ship wrecked.
