Why howdy there #Checkin people! It's me again.
It’s National Peanut Butter Day here in the good old USA. It’s also Beer Can Appreciation Day, which sounds kinda dumb. Beer Appreciation Day I can understand, but Beer Can Appreciation Day? What, because it holds beer? Sheesh!
So let's get down to the important question for today: Smooth, or Nutty? Premixed, or mix it yourself? (I've heard of couple breaking up over that last one.) Me, I like peanut butter, period. I prefer the major American nutty you-mix-it brand, but I'll eat the other premixed kind with all that hydrogenated vegetable oil. Even the smooth one. I used to only do that kind you get at the health food store, but they almost always come in a plastic tub. Ugh.
That's why I like Laura Scudders brand. "All Natural... Just Peanuts, and Salt." Comes in a glass jar that you can repurpose. Valerie likes to keep fry and bacon grease in them for reuse or disposal. I like to soak carburetor parts in them. They have a big wide mouth, so you can pack them with your buttons, beads, or weed, and it's easy to fish what you want out.
A fellow peanut butter aficionado introduced me to Mamba (Spicy Haitian Peanut Butter.) When I asked them how or where where to procure this terrific stuff, they said that they got it as a recipe off the internet. WHAT?! I have to make it my self?1 Oh well.
I asked for the recipe:
1 pound shelled raw peanuts
1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons coconut oil
2 teaspoons ground cayenne
1 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1 teaspoon kosher salt (I use Morton’s)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
I took one look at that recipe and it was a hard no. I have to roast raw peanuts first? No no no oh no.
When I want some I just mix some up some hot chili oil and sir it into some peanut butter. Not quite as good as the one my friend served me, but still pretty good. You can buy the chili oil if you'd rather not make it. You just have to make sure there's no garlic in it. Yikes.
Beer Can Appreciation Day. Who in the Hell comes up with this stuff?
