Remote volunteering opportunity:

Developing API's with Rwanda's National Reference Lab

BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH), Seattle-based NGO, has partnered with the Rwandan Ministry of Health to introduce HPV-based cervical cancer screening services to Rwandan districts for the first time. HPV samples are being collected at district health facilities and transported to the National Reference Lab (NRL) for testing. Currently, the LABWARE LIS system used at Rwanda’s NRL is not linked to OpenMRS (the National EMR system). For now, NRL has hired staff to manually enter HPV results from LABWARE LIS into the corresponding patient profile in OpenMRS. BVGH would like to support the NRL to link these two systems for more efficient exchange of data [these systems were previously confirmed by NRL IT to be interoperable, but not yet linked]. We are reaching out to partners in our network to identify a volunteer software developer consultant who could work with NRL to develop APIs and link these systems.
