Hello fellow humans.

Personal cheques are back baby! I’m old enough to remember when businesses surcharged for using credit cards (or gave a discount for cash or debit cards). Now that I’m paying small businesses for services I’m running up against a 3.5% surcharge if I charge over a certain amount – usually $2-4K. I’m sure some of them will forgive the credit card use charge but those charges can really cut into their bottom line so I understand them being passed on. They will take an e-transfer but I hesitate to set a high enough limit to pay for renos so cheques it is. I got the free ugly cheques from the bank and they work just fine.

Telus just made the news for saying their highly profitable company is going to start surcharging people who set up automatic payments using credit cards. Scoundrels! Have you found more places giving discounts to cash, debit or e-transfer?

Grab your beverage preference (pixel or not) and enjoy the space. I try to keep things light but this is your thread so … there’s always an element of randomness. Sometimes it changes course and sometimes ideas are more nuanced.
