According to Hamid Jafari, the director of polio eradication at the World Health Organization (WHO), the detection of the polio virus in Gaza's sewage indicates that infections are already occurring and the virus is circulating.

"The risk of transmission is intensifying in Gaza, and the risk of an international spread is consequently also high," Jafari told Al Jazeera.

The discovery of polio in Gaza’s sewage water has sparked grave concerns among families living in overcrowded displacement centers surrounded by sewage due to the Israeli occupation's relentless bombardment of their neighborhoods.
