Maria Innocentia Hummel (born Berta Hummel; 21 May 1909 – 6 November 1946) was a German Franciscan sister and artist. She is noted for her paintings which were the basis for Hummel figurines.

Dear John and Daughter ~ You wrote that you didn't know much about your German heritage. This is what I've meant to send to you for many months. I haven't done any extensive research on your family name. Many times a person's last name has nothing to do with their actual DNA blood-line genealogy. I was stopped in my tracks when I saw this photograph. The eyes, the smile, the wonderful expression on her face. I get chills from head to toe just looking at her. It is your eyes, your smile and your expression. So. That is the first clue. You are a true Hummel, and one may proceed from there. ('Tis emotional for me.)
