Some populations of Australian bottlenose dolphins perform a maneuver in which they strike octopuses to throw them out of the water, attempting to destabilize them before devouring them.

Other dolphins in Australia's Shark Bay strike the surface of the water while burying their noses in the seagrass beds below, perhaps to chase the fish out of their hiding places. Scientists have dubbed this behavior the kerplunk.
