Why howdy there Checkin people, it's Rod again, here to talk about a few things, like It’s International Animation Day!
It's a day set aside to recognize and celebrate the artists, the scientists and the technicians behind animated art including animated movies. Me, I LOVE animated movies. How about you? Is there any sort of animation you are particularly fond of? Right now I'm going chronologically through the Studio Ghibli hub on HBO+. Probably watching "Kiki's Delivery Service" as you read this.

On this day in 1886 U.S. President Grover Cleveland officially dedicated the Statue of Liberty—a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States—on Bedloe's (later Liberty) Island in Upper New York Bay.

I have to admit that in all my travels all around the continent, as neither child or adult, I have never visited Ellis Island or the Statue of Liberty, though I've always meant to do so. There are a lot of places I've missed, mostly bypassing them in an effort to meet some arbitrary timetable I've made. Now that I'm retired and have more time, I hope, to catch them, it would be nice to do so but now I lack the energy or inclination. One thing I learned in my travels is that while one place is pretty much its own, people everywhere are generally friendly and helpful. There's been many a time when my figurative bacon was saved by some kind local coming to my rescue. Hospitality seemed to be a natural thing for most. I sure hope that it's still the case.
