Trump's followers think his legal problems make him a hero and he's betting on them to save him from the legal consequences of his many egregious acts (by electing him president).
As a result, he consistently says idiotic things in front of the camera to please his followers, even though the things he says would doom him in a fair trial.
It remains to be seen whether his gamble with pay off. If it does, then he was right and America is a shithole not worth saving.
