I went for a wonderful walk today on high chalk downland with incredible views, ending up at the surviving earthworks of an Iron-Age fort. There were butterflies everywhere you looked – more than I've ever seen before.

In the ditch between two rings of the old fort, I also saw my first ever golden-ringed dragonfly. I only managed to snap one photo before it took off again, but thankfully it came out all right.
