They're prepping to migrate back north for nesting. I don't welcome them back because they'll eat Monarch butterflies in their courting rituals where males feed them to the desired females.

Wind Rider: The Majestic Flight of a KiteCharlie and I were sitting outside this morning. I was drinking coffee, watching for birds, and taking care of some business on my phone. Suddenly, dozens of Mississippi Kites (ctinia mississippiensis) appeared in the sky, riding the thermals, circling, slowly moving south or east. They were pretty high, and a few passed over, I was able to get a couple of recognizable photos so that I identified the birds.

I don't post all of the photos that I post here to my Pixels gallery, but I post the photos I like best. Some don't make the cut. I most likely will not post this one to the gallery. I usually wait a couple of days to see how I feel about it then.

"A single Mississippi kite is captured in mid-flight against a pale sky. Its wings are fully spread, displaying an impressive wingspan. The detailed feathers create a natural gradient effect, with varying shades of brown and grey. The kite’s compact body and focused eyes give it an intense look as it soars effortlessly, embodying grace and freedom. The photo is credited to “© Swede's Photographs.” - Copilot
"The image predominantly features a clear, expansive sky as the background. Against this canvas, multiple Mississippi kites are visible, scattered across the sky. These elegant birds are captured in mid-flight, their wings spread out wide. Each kite occupies a different altitude and angle, creating a dynamic view of their soaring motion. The overall mood of the image is serene and natural, as if the birds are dancing with the wind. " - Copilot
