Right now I'm watching #FareedZakaria production, "Why #Iran Hates Us" and all I see is how much of a male Fareed is. He began with Iran in the 1950s and the rise of Shah Pahlavi as "western friendly" but brutal at home, and he's now giving account of the revolution that gave Iran Khomeini....and missed the importance of the role Iranian women played.

Pahlavi put the force of law behind banning the hijab and Iranian women were all "you can't tell us what we can or can't wear!" and proceeded to wear head scarves breaking the law right & left, and likely saw pro-hijab Khomeini as an ally...which brings us to today where it's Iranian women again telling Supreme Leader that he can't tell Iranian women what they can or can't wear, and the women have been ditching, even burning, head scarves breaking the law right & left.

Changes in Iran were always up to the women--back then, and even now. Iranian women ROCK.
