Why howdy there Checkin people, today is Halloween!
Halloween, also called All Hallow's Eve, occurs on the eve of the Western Christian celebration of All Hallow's or All Saints Day - a day set aside to honor all the Saints of Christendom. Halloween is also a popular celebration with ties to the Celtic festival of Samhain, a celebration of the end of the harvest. The name Halloween comes from the longer name 'All Hallow's Eve'. In the US, this is a popular holiday for young and old and involves dressing up in costumes, harvest parties, and 'trick or treating'. It is celebrated every year on the 31st of October.
It’s my ex-wife’s 68th birthday, and yet it’s still my favorite holiday.
When I was a kid my cousins and I would go out for tricks or treats. We’d come home with pillow cases filled with candy and things. With all the kids, our family didn’t have much money for store-bought costumes for all of us, but my folks were pretty creative. One year I asked to be a pirate, and they put together a terrific costume, with a wooden cutlass painted put to look metal, a hoop earring, eyepatch and everything, including a makeup scar on one cheek. My folks were the best. I actually felt sorry for kids in those cheap satin costumes that tied in the back, that had those plastic masks that made their faces swampy with sweat.
