Why howdy there #Checkin people!
It’s National Hot Sauce Day here in the (not so) good old USA!
It’s also Local Quilt Shop Day, and Blonde Brownie Day.
What the heck is a blonde brownie? Aren’t brownies by both name and nature brown? Why didn’t they call those pale-assed confections "Blondies" instead? Who’s in charge of this English Language anyway?
I grew up with hot sauce at the table. At every meal.
Two main staples of my household of origin were rice and hot sauce. (Well, shoyu, patis, and finadene, sure, but I digress.)
Rice for breakfast? Absolutely. With beans. Nopales. Tomatoes and eggplant. Green banana. Fried plantain. Roasted yams. As a side for fish, steak, bacon, ham, or last night's Cochinita Pibil. With scrambled or over-easy eggs. Tamago kake gohan (卵かけご飯, "egg on rice") even as Spam and/or egg fried rice. With a steamy bowl of Sinigang. And last but not least: as the endless winter servings of Pospas (Arroz Caldo, Lugaw, Congee, Rice & Chicken Gruel, whatevs.) Hot sauce was always there, regardless.
Oh man. Now I want a big old serving of Gyeran Bap smothered in Gochujang.
Top Five: Sriracha, Cholula, Gochujang, S&B chili oil w/ Crunchy Garlic, and Me's Way Chili Sauce, because sometimes you just need that anchovy flavor.
FINALLY got the adult cat out. Saw it run into the corner of the living room while walking in from the garage. So we quickly closed all the interior doors and blocked the main passageways from the living room to the dining room and kitchen with things like clothes hampers and food storage bins. Then we opened the front door and tried to approach her. She ran around the room 3 times, count ‘em: three; and runs into the alcove where Valerie was standing. The cat scratched at the door to my room, trying to get in, then the doors to Valerie's room and the bathroom. The cat then runs around Valerie's legs, back into the living room, sees the open front door, and off she goes into the wild. Never saw a cat act so afraid in my life, poor thing.
And yes, Betty The Kitten is still somewhere in the house. Valerie's room, we're guessing.
