Ah, Stevie Nicks! 🎶

I'd seen her name several times in the past few weeks, & wondered why? A birthday or event? Yes, that was it, Born 26 May 1948.
I even saw a quote from her in the local newspaper (May 2022):

"I hear all these older songwriters go, like, 'I can't write love songs anymore.'
And I'm, like, 'Well, that's just stupid.' Go open your memory library and check in there."

Indeed. Checking in. Wayback machine: Stevie Nicks! Unpacking... A long-time favorite, from Buckingham Nicks.
Unpack carefully. Headphones/big speakers recommended. Happy travels through the memory library.

Frozen Love

FROZEN LOVE:

You may not be as strong as me
And I may not care to teach you
It may be hard to keep up with me
But I'll always be able to reach you

And if you go forward (You go forward), I'll meet you there
And if you climb up through the cold freezing air
Look down below you, search out above
And cry out to life for a frozen love (Cry out, love)

Life gave me you; the change was made
And there's no beginning over
You are not happy, but what is love?
Hate gave you me for a lover...

And if you go forward, I'll meet you there
And if you climb up through the cold freezing air
Look down below you; search out above
And cry out to life for a frozen love

The NY Times has a featureI* on the forthcoming new album by Lindsey Buckingham, who was one half of the musical and personal
chemistry which bubbled into the first and only album, Buckingham Nicks. Never a commercial success but it is an amazing album.

The album chronicles the life and musical chemistry of the two in the title. Things did not work out well for the couple, with the Times applauding Buckingham for getting up yet again and re-appearing like. a phoenix. I can't say more, article is paywalled.

Many speculate or gossip, but my take is that the relationship was complex & passionate, and maybe... competitive. +/=

Races Are Won

Races are won, some people win and some people always have to lose

Full lyrics below, and just a bit more context & perspective. Oh, and Stevie Nicks wrote it. ;)

Those who follow music/rock/vintage history may know that Fleetwood Mac had it's first huge hits in a long time (ever?) - like Rhiannon - when Stevie and Lindsey joined Fleetwood Mac, who had played out its 60s Mayall/ BluesBreakers/ British rock repertoire Anyone who saw them towards their end (which may have been imminent), knows that they were de-energized, but suddenly reborn & super-infused by Buckingham & Nicks.

But it did mot end well personally, at least for Lindsey, the Times characterizing him as picking himself up once again. He's back.

I think this here is a masterwork song that captures the personal & musical chemistry and I was in the music/sound biz for a while and remember first hearing this album on good sound speakers &/or headphones and getting goose bumps. It's quite an opus.

LYRICS

So many different kind of people
Trying to be the same
"No way," baby
He said
Baby there's no way
If we could start again
Well who knows
Have we really changed
Some say we have
Reflecting our past
Who can say
Who can say

Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
Tell me I'm wrong
I can't believe you
We tried a thousand times before
Rained on reasons
Kept us believing
That there might still be more

Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
