Vaping - is it a risk-free option? | BBC News

They are brightly coloured, easy-to-use and come in flavours from cotton candy to blue raspberry - disposable vapes are surging in popularity.
They're also a major part of the government's plan in England to get the remaining six million smokers to quit by 2030.
So how safe is vaping, particularly for young people who have never smoked?

Is it a risk-free option?! Of course it isn't! Vaping is creating more and more child nicotine addicts every day. It's an appalling situation that needs to be seriously addressed right now. Vapes are also a serious risk of a sudden fatal asthma attack for many people and can cause serious breathing problems for people with COPD, conditions often caused by nicotine addicts in the first place. Vape sticks should be removed from public view and kept in closed cupboards at the point of sale, not filling shop windows.

Megan Munday, 18, started using vapes to cut down on cigarettes, and found the flavours "quite addictive".

No, it's not the flavour that's addictive. Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs there is, up there with heroin, meth, and crack cocaine. I'm pretty sure that it's still the case that Megan can get free drug addiction and psychotherapy on the NHS.

Smokers up to 80% more likely to be admitted to hospital with Covid, study says | Smoking | The Guardian

Smokers are 60%-80% more likely to be admitted to hospital with Covid-19 and also more likely to die from the disease, data suggests.
A study, which pooled observational and genetic data on smoking and Covid-19 to strengthen the evidence base, contradicts research published at the start of the pandemic suggesting that smoking might help to protect against the virus. This was later retracted after it was discovered that some of the paper’s authors had financial links to the tobacco industry.

Links to the tobacco industry? Not at all surprising. Big Tobacco wants to keep people addicted to nicotine, and to turn as many more people into nicotine addicts as they can.

And still The Guardian, along with the rest of main stream media, continues to ignore the plight of the many, many millions of people whose health is badly affected with asthma, lung disease, heart disease, and death, caused directly by the nicotine addicts.
