Tonight's full Moon is a "supermoon" for the fourth month in a row. We've decided that's a stupidmoon.

Supermoons should be special, not repetitive. The term "supermoon" was coined by an astrologer in 1979 to describe a rare #fullMoon unusually close to perigee (closest approach to Earth), as much as 14% wider and 30% brighter than ordinary full Moons

That’s because October’s Full Moon — also called the Hunter’s Moon — is a Super Moon as well. Instead of the Man in the Moon, see if you see the Rabbit in the Moon tonight!

Graceful #star #trail arcs reflect #planet #Earth's daily #rotation in this colorful #night #skyscape.
Taken in #time-lapse from the shores of the Ashokan Reservoir in the Catskills region of New York, USA, the North star #Polaris is near the center of the star trail arcs. The broad trail of a waxing crescent #Moon is on the left, casting a strong reflection across the reservoir waters. With intense solar activity driving recent geomagnetic storms, the colorful aurora borealis or northern lights, rare to the region, shine under Polaris and the north celestial pole.

First arising #fullMoon of the year

The first full moon of the year arises over the hills of the earth of our grandchildren. A creamy glimmer is surrounding him creating a heavy contrast on the blackish background of a dark starry night, while his incandescente light ignites the mist that lies in the air. The treetops of the eucalyptus that cover the hills reflect their silhouette in a harsh contrast, while the fog that lies over the grasslands covered in darkness, cushions the rising moon in it's sheets. Somehow, in the darkness of the right lower part of the landscape, the misty fog got caught in the bearded reflection of the bauhelm podcaster. The opaque copyLeft flower in the right upper corner indicates the true nature of this rising moon in the spaces reserved for our grand children.

the rules of the game are simple - choose a photo (preferably your own), edit with gimp, tag #sundayGimp on a Sunday .. and follow the tag.

#FullMoon in #Leo
JANUARY 25, 2024 / GRAY #ASTROLOGY

..."the silvery light brought by the Leo Full Moon can deliver insight into the next steps needing to be made. If you’ve managed to bring a major work together during these tumultuous times, make space to celebrate and honor the productive force that Mars and Mercury can create together.

Of course in global events there are too many examples to count of disastrous decisions that have been made during these months of Mercury and Mars that have led to massive death and destruction as well as needless conflicts on a smaller scale. Their final conjunction is taking place in a square aspect with the lunar nodes at the southern bending of the nodes, the chthonic turning of the dragon, a place of crossroads, pivotal choices, and subconscious depths. Looking around for guidance, they encounter the ultimate guide and mentor – Chiron – scrutinizing their path with his heart-centered gaze of hard won wisdom. Mars will form a square aspect with Chiron on the same day as the Leo Full Moon, while Mercury will form a square one day later on 26 January. Depending upon the choices made and actions taken with Mercury and Mars coming together, Chiron will cut to the center with messages that can help in recalibrating, rebalancing, and making sure we are responsibly on course to get to where we want to go and are in right relationship with those around us. To receive the wisdom of Chiron, however, we will have to listen.

Chiron in Aries has been engaging the Head of the Dragon, and will continue to be a guardian of this lunar gate in the months ahead as Chiron will form a conjunction with the true calculation of the north node on 19 February, will form a conjunction with the mean calculation of the north node on 5 March, and will be present at the dead center of the Aries Solar Eclipse that will be aligned with the north node on 8 April. Unions between Chiron and the Dragon’s Head are not too common, as it hasn’t happened since 2008 and will not happen again until 2038. With Chiron holding space at the zodiacal degree marking the intersection of the Moon’s monthly crossing of the ecliptic, we will experience monthly conjunctions of the Moon with her north node and Chiron (13 February; 11 March; 8 April; 5 May) as well as oppositions between the Moon and Chiron when Luna conjoins her own south node in Libra (31 January; 27 February; 26 March; 22 April).

The world has gone through accelerated changes since the pandemic and inception of several major astrological cycles in 2020, and we also know that the astrological alignments in the years ahead promise much more change. Many longstanding attachments, places and passions and people we have been attached to have had to pass away, and so feelings of uncertainty concerning the future can grab hold of us. For many reasons we are entering a time of Chiron playing an increasingly important role. Chiron the mediator between the realms within Saturn and the realms beyond Uranus. Chiron the horse, the human, the teacher, the one whose sacrifice liberated the liberating Prometheus. In Aries the wisdom of Chiron involves the courage of the heart, as well as the need for relationship and mentoring, for questioning when we need to widen the scope of our individual perspective and shed the individualizing influences of the times to relate to the collective concerns of our community. Yet in other cases the fire of Chiron in Aries may ignite realization of a need to remove ourselves from groupthink and conforming with the expectations of others. The thread through all of the complexity to come will involve listening to both internal and external messages."...

A Queenly #FullMoon in #Leo and Why It’s Important
JANUARY 24, 2024 BY ADAM ELENBAAS

..."Everything is moving according to the desire to build tangible things and tangible results. Remember, Pluto in the sun just entered Aquarius, ruled by Saturn, gives us a kind of blueprint.
...
So the tensions right now between collective needs, projects, blueprints, plans, building design, all rooted in Venusian things, beauty, desire, you know, relationships are building things. Okay, but we can't lose sight of the fact that it is easy when there is an overarching plan, a vision, collaboration, and so forth, that we can somehow the individual can get lost. The need of the individual soul for individual expression. So watch for tension right now between what is individual, or what is collective or ideal, a plan, a blueprint, something that's bigger than me, something that's a part of a group or a family or a community or a collaboration. But don't forget your individual needs in the process.

The Leo-Moon is sort of demanding that there be an integration of the two. What we love, what we protect, and what we are loyal to. I like this again, as a bunch of the feminine cards, the Empress, the Queen, the strength card.

The moon in Leo brings up, you know, what we love, what we're devoted to, what we're loyal to, what we think is worth protecting, where we find that there is a sense of joining with others or joining with someone in particular or a family or community or a home or living environment or a culture. There's some sense of collective unity with the moon because the moon, for example, in ancient astrology, the moon referred to the city, the village, the family, the tribe, and the voters as opposed to the king or the Queen, the city, the people.:,,,

#FullMoon in Cancer
DECEMBER 25, 2023 / GRAYASTROLOGY
#astrology

"...the Full Moon in Cancer will illuminate the days following the stillness of the #Capricorn Solstice when light begins increasing within the prolonged night of the northern hemisphere, #Jupiter will possess an intensified presence due to stationing direct. Within the flowing cups of holiday cheer, the making of merry may bring fresh remembrance of vital vibrancy, the purpose and passion that nurtures perseverance and rallies resilience.

The Full Moon in Cancer on 26 December 2023 is in the exaltation of Jupiter, with the Moon mutually received by Jupiter in the exaltation of the Moon. Jupiter will station direct on 30 December at 5º34’ Taurus, amplifying the potency of setting intention as calendars flip from 2023 to 2024. With the Moon full of light in her own watery domicile applying to a harmonious sextile with Jupiter in her earthy exaltation of Taurus, the Cancer Full Moon will beam nourishing light into whatever forms of creativity, philosophy, spirituality, and devotional practices you are engaging. Jupiter has numerous significations that enrich life and fertilize growth, including fellowship, justice, prosperity, freedom, fidelity, generosity, charity, reverence, worship, understanding, authority and leadership. The coherence and affirmation brought by Jupiter will amplify the Moon’s capacity for reflecting upon our stories from 2023 and how they can inform the next chapters we wish to author in 2024.
...
Chiron will station direct at 15º27’ Aries on the same day as the lunation. With Chiron and Jupiter stationing direct within days of one another, the roses of received revelation will also have thorns of protection. Sometimes when Chiron takes on an intensified presence we experience buried wounds of body and psyche arising into sharp awareness. Listen for the messages of soul in the symptoms and how processes of healing may further link to changes in larger life direction that need to be made. Chiron is also the cave dwelling mentor whose wise counsel helps us bridge between our present reality and the vision we hold of a more fulfilling and purposeful life. Chiron is in position to guide the necessary modifications and readjustments that need to be made at the turn of the calendar year, including our daily routines and rituals around caring for the health of our body and mind.
...
As we are entering an extended period of collective volatility that will sweep across the rest of the decade, we will need to be actively co-creating community that can flexibly mutate in accordance with the changing societal dynamics. We will need to hold ourselves accountable to living in accordance with our ideals and values, as well as help those we are in relationship with be accountable. Yet responsibility starts with ourselves and the daily care and love we bring to our relationships and what we produce from them. May the light of the Cancer Full Moon illuminate those in our relationship field who we can form mutually supportive dynamics with, and may your year ahead be blessed with increased vitality and creativity."...

PERIGEE HARVEST MOON: Everyone has heard of the Harvest Moon. It's the full Moon closest to the northern autumnal equinox. Tonight's Harvest Moon is special, though. It's a "perigee" Harvest Moon, 5 percent bigger and 13 percent brighter than an average full Moon. Andreas Walker photographed it rising over Hallwil, Switzerland:

"The red #fullmoon looked huge as it rose in the dark blue sky," says Walker. "Telephone lines provided a perfect foreground."

What is a "perigee moon?" The Moon's orbit is an ellipse with one side ("perigee") about 50,000 km closer than the other ("apogee"). Full Moons that occur on the perigee side of the Moon's orbit are extra big and bright. That's what's happening tonight, with the Moon becoming full within 32 hours of perigee. It's "only" 359,910 km away
