The word "sân chơi" most directly translates to "playground", but the English connotations of that word do not do it justice. Hanoi is peppered with these (usually bare concrete) social spaces and they are heavily used. Sports, dance, aerobics, birthday parties, weddings, overnight parking, festivals. There is little that doesn't happen in them. They may seem rather barebones when empty, but they are rarely empty.
Books that I read in 2021 - number 26:
This is a book of short stories by a Vietnamese female writer. In general, I liked the inside view, which was new to me. Some stories seemed a bit outdated in their gender portrayals and others I found very humorous and peculiar. I often loved the narrators voice. Now I would be interested in a novel by the same author.
