Palestinian Territory - An urgent international intervention is needed to send rescue and ambulance crews to a residential block in #Jabalia Camp, in the northern #Gaza Strip, after Israeli occupation forces bombed it last night. The horrifying massacre, during which Israeli forces destroyed homes over the heads of their residents, also requires a serious international investigation.
 
Initial reports from the Euro-Med Monitor field team state that at least 13 homes in Block 7 on Jabalia Camp’s Al-Houja Street were bombed by Israeli warplanes at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday 24 October. The residents of these homes chose to remain in the area and not follow the Israeli evacuation orders, particularly after the Israeli occupation army targeted people who attempted to leave their homes and killed them in the streets or arrested and mistreated them.

Gazans in the north are trapped in their homes as Israel launches a new #military operation, threatening hospitals and shooting at fleeing residents.

The Israeli army has launched a major new offensive in northern Gaza, besieging the Strip’s three northernmost cities and their surroundings. Early Sunday morning, the army ordered the approximately 400,000 residents remaining in the north of the Strip to move to the so-called “humanitarian area” in the south ahead of a new military operation. Many refused to leave their homes, and residents of Jabalia, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahiya have been under intense bombardment since Sunday afternoon, cut off from Gaza City to the south as tanks and drones shoot at people who try to escape.

Over 120 Palestinians have already been killed in the area since the latest operation began as a result of airstrikes, artillery fire, and shooting by Israeli soldiers and quadcopter drones. No humanitarian aid is entering the besieged areas, and Israel has bombed Jabalia’s last functioning bakery.

(can't find second source of this) Major General (Reserve) in the occupation army, Ishaq Brik reveals a letter from a fighter in the “Engineering Battalion” confirming the falsehood of the numbers announced by the occupation:

  • A fighter in the engineering battalion who served in the reserve for 8 months wrote me a letter in which he said that he and his comrades felt that they had been “deceived.”

  • How does the army announce the killing of 300 #Palestinian fighters in #Jabalia when we did not see the enemy?

  • I asked an officer in the armored battalion: “Could it be that the death toll that is being reported was due to artillery fire? He said: This is not true.”

  • In short, I ask: Was the army lying here as well?

On the morning of May 11, the #Israeli army spokesperson announced that the #military had begun a new operation in #Jabalia, the city and adjacent refugee camp in northern #Gaza. Evacuation orders were issued to #Palestinian residents of several neighborhoods, but many have been unable to leave; others have decided to stay, given the lack of any safe areas throughout the Strip.

The latest Israeli attack on the camp, involving both aircraft and ground troops, has had devastating consequences: the #army has bombed and bulldozed entire residential squares, markets, and food warehouses, exacerbating the already desperate humanitarian crisis, while corpses remain scattered in the streets.

Sabri Abu Al-Nasr, 43 years old, is a resident of the camp who took refuge in the #UNRWA-affiliated Al-Fakhoura #School, in an attempt to escape the Israeli bombing. “The conditions in the camp are terrible, and no one is spared from the artillery and air bombardment,” he told +972. “Israeli snipers are on high buildings — they shoot at every moving object.

On Oct. 29, Abu Al-Nasr lost his wife Nisreen (40) and his children Nisma (16), Hamza (14), and Mohammad (13) when Israel bombed a residential square adjacent to the family’s home. Their bodies remain trapped under the rubble, preventing Abu al-Nasr from being able to properly bury his loved ones. Seven months later, amid a new Israeli assault, he says “the smell of death and blood wafts throughout the camp.”

The Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza says over 1,000 homes have been destroyed as a result of the recent Israeli ground onslaught on #Jabalia refugee camp.

The camp was one of the first refuge camps built after UK handed over Palestine to Jewish immigrants from Europe in 48 that led to creation of state of Israel followed by the ethnic cleansing of most of what is today the state of Israel.
