Il s'agit probablement de la première photographie d'une personne vivante. Elle représente avant tout une rue fréquentée. Cependant, le temps d'exposition ayant dépassé 10 minutes, le trafic s'avéra trop rapide pour apparaître. Seul apparaît l'homme en bas à gauche, resté immobile le temps de faire cirer ses chaussures.
