I wrote this several years ago.
Bell of Remembrance

He told me I always act like it’s an emergency.
I notice his every dot, dash and eyelash.
I don’t worry about him becoming a total drunk, insane,
a hopeless drug addict, or ending up in jail.
I don’t worry about him losing his soul.
It’s large and easy to find.
No matter what happens to him, and a lot happens to him,
as he is being refined in a furnace of afflictions,
he gets his act together.
I can tell. He's a ‘Man Warrior’.
He has a secret self. A secret strength.
The Man Warrior knows of the strength and
weakness of Samson,
and the wisdom and downfall of Solomon.
He steps aside from himself, and looks at it all.
Analyzes it all. He is his own judge and jury,
and sentences himself. Too harshly, I fear.
Angels weep when he suffers.
I see them, and weep myself.
I’ll wait, even if it’s in the next life.
I hope he finds me there.
Maybe I should be ringing a bell?
No. Too many others will be ringing bells.
I don’t know how people find each other,
and are happily united, in this life, or the next.
I do know, something about the other person
rings a Bell of Remembrance.
I heard a cathedral bell. It’s large, easy to hear,
and Impossible to ignore and forget.
I remembered him, and the great love between us.
