New Here? Yeah, but after a while, you're not new anymore.

Something irks me. There is this lovely hashtag #newhere (which I am not typing out for obvious reasons) that helps us all to just filter people who are new to Diaspora and who are trying to connect with and meet people here. In fact, if you look to the left of your screen, on the side panel, there is a bullet point that invites us to "Welcome new users", and that connects us to the hashtag #newhere.
I realize that all you Google+ newcomers still feel new here, even after a couple of posts, but as far as I understand it, this hashtag has a specific function. Now if people keep abusing this hashtag and use it over and over, for everything they post, then the real newcomers have less of a chance of being found and welcomed properly. Right? So, I would like to invite you to seriously reconsider if you're planning to use this tag more than once.
Let's give the real newcomers a chance to be seen and be welcomed warmly, like others did for us when we first got here.
Oh, and btw, do that. Right now. Stop reading this. Go and welcome some new folks.

Why are you still reading this?

Really? Still?
GO!
